Un paio di anni fa, ho deciso di provare a fare oggettini in pasta di sale, perche' avevo visto in un giornale alcune cosette adattissime per fare regalini. Gli ingredienti semplici, facili da trovare, economici: farina sale, acqua, olio, oppure colla da tappezzeria(Potete trovare la ricetta qui).
   La pasta al sale, da' molte soddisfazioni perche' e' facile da lavorare ed e' adattissima per fare ghirlande e frutta. L'aspetto e' rustico ed e' bellissimo. Gli unici svantaggi sono:

i) L'asciugatura che richiede molte ore in forno a temperatura bassissima.
ii) L'umidita' .Puo' rovinare i lavori anche se protetti dalla vernice.
iii) La possibilita' di formazione di vermetti.Dopo tutto la farina e' uno dei principali ingredienti.

   L'impasto della pasta di sale si puo' colorare prima di modellare gli oggetti;pero' una volta cotti in forno gli oggetti perdono un po' il colore. Acquarelle, tempere, colori acrylici sono adatti per colorare la pasta di sale. Naturalmente gli oggetti si possono colorare anche dopo la cottura. Un paio di mani di vernice completano l'opera. Il sale piu' adatto e' quello fino, l'acqua deve essere a temperatura ambiente. Io preferisco usare la stessa quantita' di sale e farina, aggiungo un cucchiaio di colla da tappezzeria oppure un cucchiaio di olio di semi.

   A couple of years ago, I decided to try creating small ornaments from salt dough because I've seen similar items in a magazine, items that where ideal for gifts and all that with cheap and easy to find ingredients such as flour, water, salt and tapestry glue.(You can find the recipe here).
   Salt dough is a very satisfying pastime because it's very easy to work with and it's ideal to create wreaths and fruits. The results are beautiful and very rustic, the only disadvantages are:

i) The "drying procedure" that demands many hours at the oven at minimum temperature.
ii) Humidity which can destroy your works even after they have been varnished.
iii) The possibility of little worms eating your works! (After all, the main ingredient is flour).

   The actual dough of the salt dough can be colored before creating the objects, nevertheless once baked the colors will fade a bit. Water colors, acrylic paints are ideal for painting the dough. Obviously the objects can be painted after they have been baked. To finish the work of art a couple of hands of varnish are necessary, to create the dough the ideal salt is the one of finer quality and the water must be at room temperature. My experience has taught me that when I mix equal amounts of flour with salt the resulting dough is easier to work with.To complete the recipe a tablespoon of tapestry glue or vegetable oil is needed.
