Lights Out News | What I've been up to | 2004-11-17 | Work is still being done on the Lights Out project. It probably would be finished, except that I have decided to ask a friend of mine to spruce up the graphics for the game. Meanwhile, I am working on improving the ICGL library that I used to create the game. The game wont be done until sometime after I finish my last semester of school in December. No projected release date for now.
| | Release is Eminent | 2004-06-10 | The game is now nearly finished, and will be released sometime before the end of the summer. I will post some updated screen shots within a couple days or so.
| | Still Truckn' Along | 2004-01-24 | Obviously, I didn't make my original projected release date. The project is still underway, however, and I've made some significant progress the last couple of months. The engine is mostly all there, whats left is all the little features that are necessary to make the game professional and complete (like game load/save options). Other projects are taking priority at the moment, but a final release shouldn't be too far off. What's more, I should have a pretty decent reusable game library when I'm finished, which I will release as ICGL.
| | Eye Candy | 2003-07-12 | Well, psuedo-eye candy anyway. I have screen shots posted for the upcoming release of my first game, "Lights Out"! I've been working pretty hard on it, and I have all of the graphics engine coded. I still have to finish the music/sound and keyboard input pieces of the ICGL, and I still have a lot of drawing to do. But the game is getting there. I'm looking at a release sometime in the Fall.
| | So far, so good. | 2003-04-14 | Just wanted to give you an update on the status of this project. I've been working on it like crazy the last several days. Right now, I have it pretty much as functional as the original version I released three years ago. I've also improved most of the graphics and have added a few more features (like variable sized puzzles). The first release is still probably a month or two out, however (I have to do my school work sometime!).
| | The Future of 'Lights Out' | 2003-02-9 | I originally began Lights Out my senior year of high school as one of my many programming projects that I would probably never finish. That was OK, because the main objective was to learn how to make games work, and I would do that whether I actually finished it or not. Ironically, my interest stayed with it long enough that I actually finished a working version of it (the alpha version which you can download). At that point, I began thinking about polishing it off and selling it for a nominal fee. I never did that, however, mainly because the code was poorly organized. I never expected to finish the program, so I didn't worry too much about making it extensible. But, the story doesn't end there. I am now working from scratch to rewrite the game in its original form, as well as finish all the features that are needeed to make it a viable product. In the process, I am also writing my first iteration of the ICGL engine, which is basically a generic game engine built on top of DirectX. I will post more on ICGL on this site in a few weeks. So far, I've got the basic graphics and puzzle engine working. I'll post an updated demo program it has enough interesting features to make it a worthwhile download.
