ANOTHER COLLEGE IN OXFORD

In an exciting expansion to the club's successful youth policy and Development College infrastructure, Oxford City Football Club is delighted to announce a formal educational partnership with the Sports & Recreation department of Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC), from High Wycombe. A three year agreement has been signed which includes a programme of professional presentations and lectures undertaken by BCUC teaching staff at City's ground focusing on career opportunities which will fully integrate with other appropriate sports related studies scheduled for the club's youngsters.

Within this totally unique concept at non-league level, the University will link with the Oxford City Development College with the objective of providing innovative opportunities for the educational development of all players aged over 17 in addition to members of the club's coaching and management teams and business associates.

The partnership with the BCUC further expands Oxford City Football Club's involvement within the local community. Under the simple banner of ''more than playing football'' the club have recognised the importance for youngsters to build on the skills and disciplines that sport can offer and develop those key personal attributes within the other aspects of life in general. The strong sense of teamwork that 'this wonderful game' of football specifically instils is considered particularly important as a foundation for character development.

With the Oxford City Colts sides covering twelve age groups from Under 7s through to Under 18s and Oxford City Girls sides from age groups Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s, the Development College structure offers the opportunity for sports related extra curricular subjects to more than 200 young people and will perfectly supplement the specialist learning from the club's impressive array of qualified football coaches.

Oxford City Football Club has grown tremendously in the last three years and is now the largest participation football club in Oxfordshire - and run completely on a voluntary basis. Development Director Andy Sinnott outlines the club's strategy - ''we have a progressive board of directors and committee who have recognised that the future growth of the club is dependent on offering something special to the local community and what effectively is the next generation of Oxford City supporters and officials. The Development College structure and the link with BCUC clearly fully support that vision''

In addition to being offered the best level of coaching and competitive football, together with good facilities, the City youngsters will also have the opportunity for 'extra curricular' subjects such as:

  • coaching qualifications
  • dietary discipline
  • refereeing " sports therapy
  • first aid
  • mental strength awareness etc

The link with Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, who are based in High Wycombe and renowned as leaders in formal sporting educational innovations such as the Football Management programme, will allow the club to facilitate professional guidance by way of:

  • career advice
  • educational presentations
  • lectures
  • case study material
  • joint course development
  • work experience

Looking forward to the unique partnership over the next three years, Lyn Hawkins, Head of Sport and Recreation commented ' The Sport and Recreation Department of BCUC is very pleased to be working with such a forward-thinking community football club in providing educational opportunity and innovation for those persons who support the game and Oxford City'.
