Affiliation between Quarry Nomads FC and Oxford City FC
Two of Oxford's oldest and most respected football clubs are to form an association next season with the objective of improving the opportunities and facilities available to local players. From season 2005/06 Quarry Nomads, who compete in the Hellenic League Division 1 West will change their name to Oxford Quarry Nomads and play their home matches at Court Place Farm stadium, home of Oxford City FC. The club will also expand to form an Oxford Quarry Nomads second team in the Hellenic League Reserve Section that will play at the traditional Quarry ground in Margaret Road, Headington.
The Oxford Quarry Nomads first team will be linked with the Oxford City Development College to provide a high standard of local competitive football for City's promising youngsters. In the Hellenic League the Oxford Quarry Nomads first team will play in blue and white hoops while the second team will continue to wear the traditional black and white kit.
The two clubs have much history in common in that both have their origins back in the nineteenth century and were then arch rivals to Headington United, now of course known as Oxford United. Both clubs have provided a good class of local football in Oxford for over 100 years and both have miraculously come back from near extinction within the last 20 years to return to former standards.
This innovative association between the two clubs has been developed over several months and could have been jeopardised had Oxford City not avoided being relegated to the Hellenic League. Oxford Quarry Nomads chairman Keith Dolton and City chairman Brian Cox are both delighted by the association and particularly how officials from the two clubs have worked together so well to bring the proposal to fruition. Both clubs are grateful for the excellent support of the OFA and the Hellenic League who have recognised the clear benefits for local footballers and the sport in general.
